PRESS RELEASE Mili Mehwar Party

March 17th 2026

Executive Summary

The Mili Mehwar Party strongly condemns the reported airstrikes conducted by Pakistan inside Afghan territory, which have resulted in the killing of over 650 civilians, including patients at a rehabilitation hospital for individuals recovering from drug addiction. Many victims were reportedly burned alive, and hundreds more have been severely injured.

These actions, described by UN Special Rapporteur Richard Bennett as a potential war crime, represent a grave violation of human life, Afghan sovereignty, and international law. We stand in full solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and call for accountability, restraint, and a united national response.

Condemnation of the Attack

We express our deepest outrage at this horrific tragedy. The reported targeting of a medical rehabilitation facility—housing some of the most vulnerable members of society—is utterly indefensible.

The scale and brutality of the attack, including reports of victims burned alive, demand urgent international attention. As highlighted by UN expert Richard Bennett, such actions may constitute a war crime and must be treated with the utmost seriousness.

We call for an immediate, independent international investigation and full accountability for those responsible.

Escalating Tensions

This atrocity reflects a dangerous pattern of escalating tensions driven by repeated cross-border actions and violations of Afghan sovereignty by the Pakistani military.

If left unchecked, such actions risk further destabilizing the region, deepening humanitarian suffering, and undermining any prospects for peace.

Call for Loya Jirga and National Unity

At this critical moment, we urge Afghan authorities to convene an inclusive Loya Jirga representing all segments of society.

Only through national unity and inclusive dialogue can Afghanistan develop a coherent response, defend its sovereignty, and chart a path toward lasting peace and stability.

International Responsibility

We call on the United Nations, human rights organizations, and the broader international community to act decisively: condemn this attack, support an impartial investigation, and ensure accountability in accordance with international law.

Silence in the face of such suffering is unacceptable.

Solidarity with the People

To the people of Afghanistan: we share your grief and stand with you in this time of immense loss. Your resilience and dignity in the face of tragedy remain unshaken.

The Mili Mehwar Party stands firmly with you in the pursuit of justice, unity, and lasting peace.
